Johnny Evers Wood Sign


John Joseph Evers was a major league player and manager. He made it to the big leagues playing second baseman for the Chicago Cubs in 1902 and playing for the Cubs until 1913. Evers (rhymes with "beavers") was one of the smallest men ever to play in the major leagues. He reportedly weighed less than 100 lbs. when he first broke in. He was traded to the Boston Braves and played with them until 1917. He went on to manage three teams and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
